The self-confessed drunk mom, whose four-month-old baby was taken off her by concerned residents at the weekend, was still not able to take the infant home yesterday as she waits to be seen by a social worker.
Meanwhile Aphiwe Mtini, 26, has begged for help looking for a job so that she can take better care of baby Amazile, who was taken by the police to a Mitchells Plain hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The mother of two was stopped at 3am by a couple when they saw that she was dikgesuip as she was staggering home with the baby in her arms.
The residents asked for proof that the baby is hers and when she could not provide it they took the baby and called the police.
This as the mom made her way to the Philippi SAPS “to get proof”.
The officers took the baby to the hospital where the mom and baby have been for the past three days.
“I want to look for a job and would appreciate it if anyone can offer me something, so my baby can go to a daycare and also I can afford a nanny if I do go out.”
She says after her story appeared in the Daily Voice, she has been receiving calls nonstop.
“People have been sharing the front page with me. All of them clearly didn’t read what I had to say. All they read was that I was drunk and my baby was taken away from me.”
Aphiwe, who has a nine-year-old child living with family in the Eastern Cape, says she knows that this story will haunt her, but says she’s learned her lesson.
“That was just an unfortunate incident and I was not thinking straight because of the state I was in and I was also shocked that the couple were doubting that the child is mine.”
