Two alleged drug runners from Strandfontein will appear in court on Monday after they were caught following a dramatic high-speed chase to Hanover Park on Friday night.
Cops say the brazen men fled and crashed their silver Toyota Yaris into a Law Enforcement vehicle when they realised they had been spotted at a new pella pos in Privateer Road.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says shortly before 10pm, a wakker officer spotted the two men exiting the known drug house carrying a parcel and tried to stop them.
“The suspects entered the vehicle and as it pulled away, the officer instructed the driver to stop,” says Dyason.
“The driver instead aggressively drove his vehicle into the left fender of the City’s vehicle and sped off. A high-speed chase ensued from Strandfontein towards Lansdowne.”
Second suspect off to court
Dyason says the officer called for help and when they arrived at the corner of BlomvleI Road and Jan Smuts Drive, they managed to corner the suspects.
“The suspects tried to flee the scene on foot, but the officer, by now joined by his back-up team, managed to apprehend the two men,” he says.
“The suspects and vehicle were searched and a total of 499 mandrax tablets and a yet to be determined quantity of crystal meth and R1 430 was recovered.
“The suspects were arrested and taken to Philippi Police Station where they were charged.”
Buttons in bags, tik, cash and cellphones
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says the two men, aged 23 and 40, were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs, possession of drugs and reckless and negligent driving.
“They are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on Monday.”
Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson Sandy Schuter says residents are celebrating.
“That place only opened in January and the residents are gatvol of all the tikkoppe who are in and out there,” she says.
“They even marched to that house and I spoke to the woman who admitted that they mert from that property but she said they were selling drugs at the back. We called for that place to be raided and the Anti-Gang Unit was called in.

“We don’t know where the two suspects were taking all that drugs to, but we are celebrating the arrest and we hope the cops will apply more pressure.”
She says one of the suspects was “a big problem” in Strandfontein.
