An international expert mission to Wuhan to find out how Covid-19 spread to humans found that it is “extremely unlikely” that the virus escaped from a lab.
Instead it concluded in a report seen yesterday by AFP ahead of its official release that Covid-19 likely first passed to humans from a bat through another animal, with investigators all but ruling out a laboratory leak.
But it is still unclear what kind of animal the “missing link” is.
The long-awaited report comes as dramatic infection spikes in Europe have forced a tightening of lockdown regulations.
The international mission to Wuhan left China more than a month ago.
