Grassy Park cops have hit back at Parkwood residents who freed a gang hitman on Monday by arresting three skollies involved in the attack on the arresting officers.
Two days after cops were forced to flee from the area after they were attacked by a mob of more than 80 people who pelted them with stones, they returned to the Cape Flats community to hunt for the culprits.
Station commander Colonel Dawood Laing says a large contingent of cops descended on Parkwood yesterday shortly after 8am as sporadic shootings continued.
“They went on the hunt for the gang members involved in the attack and arrested two members of the Six Bobs gang, aged 35 and 36,” he said.
“When officers returned to the station to profile the two suspects, another 29-year-old man came to the station and handed himself over to police.”
Laing says the incident on Monday, in which the wanted gunman escaped, angered cops.
They had searched nearly a month for the attempted murder suspect who had opened fire on a group of innocent people in July.
“All three suspects have now been charged with public violence and assaulting police officers,” adds Laing.
“The community must know that there are consequences for attacking police officers who are executing their duties, especially in Parkwood as the gangsters continue to shoot.
“It is our responsibility to keep the community safe, but we cannot do so if those same people keep attacking us. We will be opposing bail at Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday.”
