A Manenberg man accused of bashing his girlfriend to death with a broomstick has been granted R1500 bail.
Ebrahiem Adams, 32, was released from the mang on Friday after his bail application was successful at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court.
Adams is accused of killing his girlfriend Fildenhia Benjamin, 42, in a jealous rage with a besemstok which left the mom of three with a cracked skull and she died in hospital days later.
Adams was busted after a three-month wait for the results of the post-mortem report which showed that she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
According to the witnesses, Fildenhia was attacked by an enraged Adams for allegedly playing games on another man’s phone.
Speaking during his bail hearing, he told the court that he would plead not guilty to the murder charge and claimed Fildenhia was attacked while selling pillow cases in Gugulethu.
The state opposed his application due to the seriousness of the crime and the state prosecutor said there were various witnesses who saw Fildenhia being attacked and would testify at the trial.
On Friday Adams returned to court and was told as he was a first-time offender, he was granted R1500 bail and instructed not to communicate with witnesses. The case was postponed to 24 February.
Fildenhia’s family could not be reached for comment.
