An explosive device used by the army has been found abandoned in bushes in Blue Downs.
The police’s K9 and Explosives units were sent out to Bentley Street on Tuesday where the device was found.
Cops say the device did not pose a threat as it was an empty shell and had already been used.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, explains the device is used by the military to create light.
“Earlier [on Tuesday] at about 12pm in Bentley Street, police were alerted about an explosive device that was discovered abandoned in the bushes between Mfuleni SAPS and a shopping centre in Blue Downs, by a member of the public.

“Members of the SAPS Dog Unit and Explosives Unit were contacted to the scene.
“It was established that it is a military ordnance device that is used by the army to create light.
“The device was used already and regarded as a harmless empty shell.
“The shell was handed in at Mfuleni SAPS for safekeeping. No criminal cases were registered.”
