The Hillview community was in uproar on Tuesday after a school child was killed and an elderly man injured in gang-related shootings.
Residents say the victims were innocent and say 27 people have been killed in gang violence this year.
On Monday, at about 7.30pm, a 16-year-old Steenberg High pupil, who was at a shop in Mossie Street in Sea Winds, was shot and killed.
The Grade 9 learner, only known as Zinadine, was shot multiple times while in his school uniform in front of a tuck shop.
On Tuesday, Zinadine’s friends were busy erecting and painting a cross in his remembrance.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says no arrests have been made.
On Tuesday morning a 57-year-old man was also shot at his home, just a metre from his wife, as he was leaving for work.
Residents went bos, and St. Edwards Street was blocked with burning tyres and mattresses as they called for more police presence.
A resident said: “People are getting shot if they give information to police. Nothing is happening to these cases and police do no follow-ups.
“Every week an innocent person gets shot. Last month an evangelist got shot 11 days after his son. No police patrol in our area and every night shootings occur in the vicinity. We will not stop. Muizenberg SAPS are corrupt and are on the payroll of gangsters.”
Rwexana confirmed an attempted murder case has been opened for this case and urged residents to report corrupt officials.
