A mother of two from Lotus River who went missing and was found buried in a shallow grave was laid to rest last week.
The funeral of Abenise Bowes was held at a secret location on April 15 as the family wanted to avoid media attention.
Abenise went missing on 30 March and her husband reported her missing on April 1.
Her body was found buried face down on a field behind Plantation Road Primary School, directly behind her house, by the 6th Street Neighbourhood Watch the next day.
No one has been arrested for the murder yet.
Abenise is survived by her son and daughter she had with husband, Dwight Bowes.
It is believed the couple separated in January, and the mom was planning to move out on the day she had disappeared.
Up until two weeks ago, the family of Abenise was holding out hope that the body found on the field was not hers, as it had been so badly damaged that it was impossible to identify her.
Family member Waseela Simons told the Daily Voice that Abenise’s children and close relatives were taken to Tygerberg Hospital for DNA sampling and their worst fears were later confirmed.
Waseela revealed Abenise and her husband had been arguing days before her death.
“We know that she was officially moving out on Thursday [30 March] and that is probably what caused an argument between them. Their relationship had been difficult and we had asked her numerous times to leave him. She divorced him in January,” she says.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut says the case is still under investigation.
“The murder case is still under investigation and no one has been arrested as yet,” Traut said.
