Dido Elizabeth Belle Lindsay was born in 1761, the daughter of Maria Belle, an African slave, and Captain Sir John Lindsay, a British Royal Navy officer.
Tonight’s e.tv fliek at 11 pm is called Belle and is inspired by her true story.
It doesn’t take a scientist to tell you that Belle’s life wasn’t all moonshine and roses, larney dresses and strings of pearls. Dido’s mom dies when she’s a few years old and she’s bounced between family members, and larneys not knowing what to do about her so-called ‘mixed-race status’.
