The festive season is in full swing and the Kaapse klopse are heading into overdrive.
This is the time of the year when the radios are off and all you hear are klopse theme songs blaring from cars and homes.
Over the years, the Juvie Boys have given us quite a few gevaarlike theme songs, from Kom nou saam, almal saam to Hop as jy die Juvies hoor.
Last year they brought us Kry vir jou ’n Juvie, but unfortunately we are still waiting for this year’s number.
It is not clear whether they will be bringing out a new theme song, but anything is possible, there are still a few days left till Nuwe Jaar.
Until then the klops community will continue to enjoy the hit songs that the Juvie Boys already gave us.
COMING LIKE THUNDER: The West London All Stars in pink & yellow. Picture: Supplied.
Last year, the West London All Stars anthem, Kom en jol nou met die All Stars, was the people’s choice for theme song of the year.
The number was sung by TDV and it blew away all competition oppie pad.
The song was produced by Tariq Blignaut, aka DA Boss, who is also the musical director of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association’s theme song, which has been launched onto MTN’s platform. The latest hit from West London is also produced by Blignaut and it’s growing on people.
The lyrics of the All Stars theme song makes their intention clear for the coming competition, where Austin Rose sings, Ons issie Eskom nie, want ons gie nie krag weggie, we come for you like thunder, broe, da boss sê soe’.
This year’s theme song has a gimmick because Waleed Hendricks’ All Stars are encouraging their supporters and klopse fans to don Poppie Langkous.
Poppie Langkous is a puppet that is known as the “ gwarra kous” and is available to purchase from the All Stars via their Facebook page and at the klopskamer.
SUMMER HIT: Baruch Entertainers to perform their new liedjie. Picture: Supplied.
Meanwhile, Baruch Entertainers managed to acquire the services of TDV during the transfer season and he wrote and will perform their new theme song.
The team, with the slogan “Full Throttle”, was quite innovative with their music video.
Most of it was filmed at their klopskamer, but for me it was the quality of the camera work that stood out.
TDV managed in the lyrics to create a new expression which will most probably become popular come this klops season, and that is “ die pudding word geroer”.
Although it was perhaps not an original melody, the Orients song also impressed me.
They are celebrating their 20-year anniversary with a well produced music video for their theme song.
It opens with a drone shot that takes us to the Cape Flats where we are then entertained by the Orients marching band and their supporters.
For me, this music video was the most creative of all.
The production value speaks volumes and sends a clear message to their competitors that Orients is coming in hard this year.
The Players also gave us a new theme song with a music video which was also well produced.
The song is sung by the inimitable Nur Abrahams and the hook, “oooh hooo hooo, we are the players” will stick immediately.
The troupe is filmed on a stadium dancing with a strong focus on their jingle squad which was the most powerful element in their arsenal last season.
I also received a song from the Seawinds klops team and I was quite impressed to see the people’s team also bringing out a theme song.
The lyrics once again speak volumes, as this team’s song is all about family. The first verse goes: “ Kom staan nou nader moeders en vaders, uncles, anties, boetas en oek tieties”.
With that said, keep klopping the klopse theme songs over the festive season because it’s becoming a very positive part of our culture and might one day be a vital part of Kaapse musiek.
Well done to all teams for gifting us with such lekker numbers that only adds to the festive vibe.
I love them all and you can be sure these numbers will be klopping in my car.
