Madeegha Anders is singing for her supper.
Well, not quite hers, but for the hungry children of Cape Town.
And the iconic singer, in partnership with SITS Gives Back, is calling on her supporters to help her charity drive.
Madeegha, along with voca-lists Fagrie Isaacs, Junaid Galant, her children Fatiema and Ashur Petersen, and Aziza Richards, will host the event called This One’s for the Children.
She will also be showcasing undiscovered talent on her show.
Madeegha says: “The concept was born out of a competition we ran earlier this year, where we highlighted women in communities and what they do.
“We went to visit those people and saw what they were doing. It was heartbreaking to see the kids they work with and how hungry they are.
“This One’s for the Children was born right there, we chose this because of the children and to create more awareness around children going hungry, being raped and killed.
“It’s sad that we live in a world where our kids have become less of a priority.
“Children have lost their place in society because they aren’t seen as kids anymore but rather as targets.
“Children are our future, we need to guide them.”
Funds raised from the event will go to different schemes that feed kids in their communities.
“These women feed kids from their pockets, they feed as long as they can give,” adds Madeegha.
“There are many women like this. If we can supply them to feed the kids, we would be reaching our purpose.”
SITS (Simplified IT Solutions) Gives Back director, Faghmi Jacobs, says he is inspired by Madeegha’s vision.
undefined“We are passionate about the work we do in our communities, especially the upliftment of women and the youth. Through doing these projects with Madeegha we are able to invest in the stars of tomorrow which gives us enormous pleasure.
“We felt that for all children 2020 has been a really difficult year. We felt that we could make a difference in these communities whether it be by providing them with a meal, a sanitary pack, stationery, or a party pack to put a smile on their faces.”
The online concert will air on 12-19 December at 8pm. Tickets cost R70 via Quicket.
