Rudi Smit is putting local dance talent on the map.
After US pop star Meghan Trainor retweeted his Me Too video, which garnered over 1 million views on YouTube, the Salt River-based choreographer is back with another hit, getting 20K views in its first five days.
His latest clip is a self-made remix of Beyonce’s Run The World.
The 3 minute 30 second-long video was filmed at Keert De Koe in Atlantis and the Strandfontein dunes, and stars Rudi and his Untimitive Dance Company dancers.
Rudi explains: “For me, it is always important to highlight the talent that we have here in Cape Town.
“I am incredibly blessed to work with a company that is extremely talented, hard-working and beyond that, we all have a common goal of showcasing inclusivity and diversity through what we do.
Rudi said they rehearsed 29 hours over seven days to prepare for the shoot.
“There are a total of 27 dancers in this video. The dancers that are in Untimitive Dance Company have all auditioned to be part of the company.”
Rudi says of his viral video from five years ago: “I would be lying if I said that I don’t want this one to go viral as well, having just gone through a tough period of Covid-19, we have created this video and there are five more to follow in the next five weeks.
“What better way to showcase that than to create these powerful projects and show what we do as a company.”
The last video was personally tweeted by Meghan Trainor on 6 September 2016, saying “WOW WOW WOW! UNBELIEVABLE. SLAY MY LIFE!”
