The Strandfontein Ratepayers and Residents Association hosted two flashmobs at the weekend to promote the different cultural clubs in the area.
The sssociation’s head Mario Oostendurp said: "Within the organisation, we have different sub-committees like arts and culture, who hosted the flashmobs on Saturday.
“The one was in San Remo at Genoa Park while the other one took place at a field off Benguela Street.
“We had dance schools doing skits and putting on performances and it was fun to see some of the residents come out and join in as well.
“There was belly dancing, breakdancing and now there are plans to do more events like this."
Following the flashmob, Mario said they plan to host pop-up performances from local singers, bands, comedians and graffiti artists.
"One of the things I learnt this weekend was that we have 22 dance schools in Strandfontein, so hosting these types of events is a great way to promote them to the public.
“The goal is that if somebody wants to host an event then they can use people from the area instead of hiring them from somewhere else."
Mario added that another flashmob is planned for next week.
"The plan is to do it on different fields around the area and also to pick places where not a lot of people really go to.
“We are doing it this way so that people can learn about all the different parks and fields we have here.
“To promote the local businesses we are also planning a pop-up exhibition where people can learn more about what they offer."
