A struggling Mitchells Plain dance student is appealing to readers to help him reach his dream of becoming a world-class dancer.
Kyle Grant, 19, grew up in Tafelsig with his mother and younger sister in the backyard of a relative.
But in 2017, Kyle moved to his father’s house in Colorado Park to be able to travel to school.
The talented teen, who is currently in his first year at the Waterfront Theatre School, says he is one step away from reaching his goal.
Kyle, who does contemporary, hip hop street style and tap dance, has a big dance exam in October, and needs financial assistance in order to participate.
“I’m appealing for financial assistance in all humbleness to make my dream come true,” he says.
“My parents aren’t able to assist me financially with paying for my exam fees, therefore I am calling out for help from the public to assist me financially to pay for these fees.”
The fees cover his exams which include; Intermediate Modern - R1235; Street Dance - R1235; Grade 4 tap - between R450/500; Foundation contemporary - R1235.
The passionate teen says: “Dance has been part of me since high school at Alexander Sinton.
“When I dance, I feel free, it elevates me to a new level every time, I take flight.
“I dance to let go of so many things and to tell my story through my body movement, and to educate others.”
Kyle says his living conditions are tough, but it motivates him to become the greatest at his craft.
“I sleep on a flat mattress on the floor and my body suffers pain when I’m in class because it takes physical strain to dance and if my body doesn’t get proper rest, it can take its toll on my performance.”
