Muizenberg singer Saalim Ismail, 35, was nominated for Song of the Year by City Awards for his inspirational anthem We Are Survivors (Singabasindileyo) that was written during the pandemic.
Saalim wrote and produced the song and collaborated with artists, including Vicky Sampson.
“This nomination is an achievement for me and it has left me overwhelmed.
“I’m sure every independent unsigned entertainment professional would feel the same, as it’s mainly those acts signed to a record label who are usually nominated and win these awards,” says Saalim.
To vote for Saalim, SMS 021 We Are Survivors to 35029.
Singer Amy Jones was also nominated for Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. Amy says: “I feel pretty amazing about the nomination. The song I’m nominated for is called Dance On My Own.
“Dancing can change your whole mood in an instant.”
To vote for Amy, SMS 021 Dance on my own and also 021 Amy Jones.
