The Miss Gay Western Cape pageant is taking place this weekend, so dust off your heels and bring out the sequins, diamonds and feathers because it’s going to be a glam affair.
On Saturday evening, twelve contestants will by vying to become the 11th queen at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone.
Last year’s winner, Mitchells Plain beauty Wendy La Rosa, will be handing over her crown to one of 12 finalists, who will be participating in the categories of theme wear, swimsuit and evening wear.
The theme for this year is Drag your Horoscope, says organiser Barry Reid.
“People are going to be blown away with the amazing garments that will be worn,” he says.

“After the scoring rounds, five finalists will be chosen to answer questions from the judges, before a new queen will be crowned.
“There will also be a prize for Miss Personality, Miss Humanitarian which is decided on by previous winners, best theme wear, best dressed and Miss Body Beautiful who is the winner of the swimwear section.”
He says the finalists have already been judged on their theme wear last week and will just parade it for the show.
Entertainment will be in the form of SAMA nominee Jarrad Ricketts, SA’s Got Talent runner-up Manila Von Teez, Drag Royalty Kat Gilardi and Emogen Moore, and from Johannesburg, Dominick Innocent, a member of the popular Gay Mzansi Choir.

Meanwhile, the Juvie Boy Entertainers presents a Variety Show on Saturday at Spine Road High School Hall.
The show features Ikie, Waseef Piekaan, Rezah Forbes, Krista Jonas, Mo George, Dik Tollies and more. Tickets cost R120 at the door.
