Meghan Markle still wants to be called “Her Royal Highness” in spite of her and husband Prince Harry giving up their royal roles in the UK.
In a nod to Princess Diana, Meghan has erased her first names from son Archie's birth certificate and replaced it with “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex”, reports the Daily Mail.
Meghan’s first names - Rachel Meghan - were removed from the mother section of the birth certificate to bring it in alliance with Diana's preferred name, “Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales”.
Archie was born on 6 May 2019 and his birth was registered on 17 May.
The name change happened a month after his birth.
Months later the couple quit the royal family and have since moved with Archie – who turns two in May – to California.
Meanwhile, sources say Meghan is unlikely to accompany Harry, 36, for a visit to the UK in June.
It will be the first time that Harry, who is sixth in line to the throne, will see his family again in over a year.
Insiders stress the couple’s plans have yet to be finalised and depend on travel restrictions due to the pandemic.
Sources were at pains to stress that Meghan’s decision to stay home are for “personal and practical” reasons and not a “snub”.
They were expected to attend Prince Philip’s 100th birthday celebrations and Trooping The Colour, the official celebration of the Queen’s 95th birthday.
Harry is also due in the UK in July to unveil the statue he and William commissioned in memory of Diana.
