Street dancers, get your groove on for the annual Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final this December.
Auditions open this week.
The current champ is Lee Shane Booysen, 30, from Mitchells Plain.
Lee Shane spends 3-4 hours training on top of his daily work as a dancer in industries that range from stage to street, and from production to film.
“I have overcome financial and environmental challenges in order to become the dancer I am today, which includes achievements such as winning Red Bull Dance Your Style South Africa in 2019, as well as appearing in productions such as First Man, Raised by Wolves, Bring It On 6, House Party 5, and Honey 3,” he says.
Red Bull Dance Your Style is a one-on-one battle where dancers dance to unpredictable music performing any street dance style.
Any discipline, such as sbujwa, amapiano, pantsula, hip-hop, popping, locking and more can enter.
The DJ is tasked with challenging the dancers with unpredictable hits to see how versatile they are.
The audience is the only judge and decides on the outcome of the battles by simply raising voting cards that are either red or blue which is assigned to their favourite dancer.
The Red Bull Dance Your Style crew will be embarking on a roadshow from 9 June to 24 July, and Cape Town gets its turn on 17 July.
Dancers outside the cities can still take part by submitting an audition video on www.redbulldanceyourstyle.com.
The roadshow dates, where dancers can film and submit their auditions, are:
12 June – Johannesburg
19 June – Polokwane
26 June – Durban
10 July – Gqeberha
24 July – Pretoria
