Marc Lottering is doing his first stage show of the year.
The comedian is thrilled to be back at the Baxter Theatre with a live audience, after doing virtual shows for the past few months.
Lottering on Lockdown kicks off on Wednesday and runs until 9 January 2021.
“This is going to be a brand-new experience for me and for the socially distanced audience. People will be laughing with masks on – quite fabulous for those with dentures!” says Marc.
The show will include material from his two shows done in lockdown, My Fellow South Africans and Another One.
Marc will explain how he navigated his way through lockdown, covering several topics ranging from the Jerusalema craze to waiters armed with temperature guns, home schooling and zoom meetings.
“I will be back on a real stage in a real theatre, and I can’t wait, I just hope not to be standing in the building alone – soe die mense moet kom kanalla,” he says.
“The pandemic has brought the performing arts to a very interesting place. It has forced us to move to the online space and I believe that remnant will always be with me in terms of how I perform a show.
“One is now more acutely aware of loads of new possibilities when it comes to screen usage. These possibilities have always existed, but I think I’m just a whole lot more comfortable with it now.
“The Baxter Theatre has all Covid protocols in place so we’re only allowed around 300 people in the theatre now.
“But having come from performing to only two camera people over the last five months, just to have any amount of people watch me live means a great deal to me.”
Marc’s partner, Anwar McKay, is producing the show.
“Marc and I were grateful that so many people supported us with our live-stream shows under lockdown,” he says.
“The Baxter has recently reopened its doors and we are thrilled to once again experience the magic of a live audience in our traditional setting.”
Tickets are from R100 to R150 via Webtickets or at the Baxter Theatre.
