Mariah Carey on Thursday became the first female international artist to perform in Saudi Arabia.
But the show was marred by Saudi women who urged her to cancel in a bid to back detained women’s rights activists.
Activists say her concert is an attempt by the government to polish its image after the killing of Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
Her publicists said she saw the show as “a positive step towards the dissolution of gender segregation.”
