Craig Lucas bagged his third gold status – soema for two singles – over weekend.
This means The Voice SA Season 2 winner has obtained a hattrick of gold statuses.
It was a double whammy when he got the news that Hearts Exposed and Antisociable got gold – selling 500 000 units – at the same time, following his Smother album getting gold status.
The Elsies River stars said: “I’m really proud that Antisociable and Hearts Exposed went gold. I was so excited when Smother went gold, but started doubting myself and wondered if any of my other songs would achieve the same success.
“I’m just so grateful for the continuous love and support people have shown me and my music.
“We wouldn’t get these awards if it wasn’t for the people buying and streaming the songs.”
Craig adds: “I write all my songs from the heart and they’re all really special to me. It makes me so happy that people love my music and that it brings them happiness and meaning.
“I have so much new music waiting in the wings that I’m really excited about and I’m thankful that, even during a pandemic, I’m still able to make music and do what I love.”
The 28-year-old says he has an album’s worth of new material he’s already written and recorded.
“There are one or two surprise collabs I think people are going to love. During the pandemic, I got to work and become friends with artists I always used to hear on the radio and look up to.”
He says the lockdown has forced him to rethink strategies to release new music: “My music has been getting quite a bit of traction overseas, getting thousands of streams in America and Europe so I’m definitely thinking a little bigger and aiming to get my stuff on international radio and writing for international artists.”
He said he was “humbled and grateful”, adding: “I still have a lot to learn, but I’m working really hard and can tell that I am growing and getting better.
“I’m feeling very confident about the future, and hope I can keep making everyone who supports me proud.”
