Cape Town diva Salome Damons Johansen shared a video on Facebook that went viral for all the right reasons.
The singer from Parow was in Port Elizabeth for a show with fellow musician Claire Phillips, when they came across an unknown woman who seemed overjoyed to meet Salome and sang a song for her.
Salome, who had her phone in her hand, managed to capture the “golden moment”.
“We landed in PE on 12 July and went straight for a radio interview when we got there,” says Salome, 40.
“After the interview, we went to a popular food joint for lunch.
“We met this funny auntie who was over the moon excited to see me and admired my hair.
“She said my hair was really beautiful and
natural.
“I returned the compliment and said her hair was just as beautiful and that I wanted to make this video of her and even joked that I’ll make her famous.
“She stood there with a loose entjie in her hand and started singing the coolest rhymes that made me laugh lekker.”
The woman, who looked to be in her fifties, rapped: “Too legit, too legit to quit, die boer se pit, die boer se pit is wit, gie my tappy want tappy maak my happy, gie my gin want dagga maak my dun, gie my bier want buur maak my suur.”
Salome says the auntie then asked her for some change and was never seen again.
She says she had no idea the video would go viral with over 125 000 views in a week.
