Singing stars Robin Pieters and Craig Lucas are teaming up for a new show for Women’s Month.
Robin reveals the online show, called Ode to Women, is inspired by tragic events from his own childhood.
Robin took to social media on Sunday night to break his silence about personal experiences of abuse and violence in his family.
He wrote: “Many of you don’t know the story behind who I am and why I am the way I am.
“I was raised by a very strong, courageous and resilient woman.
“However, what people don’t know is that I had quite a tough life.
“As a young boy, I grew up in the most unstable household filled with abuse, intimidation, manipulation and unjust treatment.
“As a child, I had to deal with a life of abuse and seeing my mother physically, mentally and psychologically abused.
“My mother and I were constantly on a quest to seek refuge during these tough times.
“There were times where I needed to sleep over at the neighbour’s house because my mom wouldn’t let me endure the abuse with her.
“This is why I decided to do this show; to celebrate women and to appreciate their beauty, their resilience, their hearts and their souls.
“I salute women and I honour them for their endurance.”
Craig, a former Voice SA winner, says he also had his fair share of hardships, and appreciates the sacrifices his mom made when she lost her husband.
“I was really young when my father passed on and my mother single-handedly took care of me and my brother; women are really remarkable beings and I admire their strength,” he says.
CELEBRATE: An Ode to Women
Robin made a heartfelt appeal to men, saying: “I want to appeal to all men out there to watch this show.
“Let us create a different narrative about women.”
The show will be live-streamed on 1 August 2020.
Tickets are R60 via Quicket.
