Aunty Merle is back at the Baxter Theatre and, this time, it is to knit tiny jerseys and booties for her first grandchild.
After four seasons of sold-out shows and four Fleur Du Cap nominations of Aunty Merle - The Musical, comedian Marc Lottering and his Athlone alter ego are ready for the next stage of her life - becoming an ouma for the first time.
The much anticipated sequel, Aunty Merle - It’s A Girl!, returns on 22 November boasting a few new faces.

The cast includes Marc Lottering, Royston Stoffels, Jennifer Steyn, Nicky Rebelo, Carmen Maarman, Zoleka Helesi, Rushney Ferguson, Julian Place, Sizwesandile Mnisi, Anzio September, Tashreeq de Villiers, Crystal Finck and Lincoln Lewis.
Marc says becoming a granny is one of the proudest moments of Merle’s life, and she can’t wait to tell everyone about her “half-white” grandchild.
Aunty Merle’s daughter and son-in-law, Abigail and Alan, have been married for five years and they have a big announcement to make.
AWAIT: Marc and crew hard at work for the much-anticipated sequel
Excitement mounts in Belgravia Road, and Merle simply cannot wait to be a first-time grandmother. Her son-in-law is, after all, as she puts it, “Bantry Bay-born”.
Marc says doing a follow-up show was a no-brainer after all the rave reviews he’s been receiving for the first show.
“We simply had to do a sequel because the first one was so well received, people couldn’t stop talking after each show and I knew then that a sequel would follow before I even knew what it would be.”
But working on the follow-up requires hard work.
“It’s a challenge, of course, because we want people to love the sequel just as much as those before and so we have to come back bigger and bolder to treat people to a lekker next chapter.
“We can’t wait to share our brand new story with our brand new songs,” says Marc.
BIG AND BOLD: Marc
