It may be a new year but summer is far from over and this week there’s a host of outdoor events for the whole family to enjoy.
It’s the first round of competition for the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
Section One teams will compete in the Juvenile Combine Chorus, English Combine Chorus, Juvenile Sentimental and Afrikaans Moppie.
Teams include Exquisite Golden Gate, Hazendal, Bishop Lavis, Hip Hop Minstrels, Seawinds, Cape Town Hawkers, Original D6 Hanover Minstrels, Woodstock Starlites, Wild Apaches, The Last Tamahawks, Wild Comanches, Juvie Boy Entertainers, and West London All Stars.
Gates open at 11am and entry for adults is R60 general access, R90 for Grandstand seating (reserved), and R200 for the VIP Suite.
Kids pay R35 general entry, R50 for Grandstand and R200 for VIP.

Then it’s time for the annual Cape Town Jazzathon taking place at the V&A Waterfront this weekend – performances featuring 280 musicians over four days.
This year’s programme will feature youth and emerging artists, women in jazz, collaborations, gospel artists and Cape jazz legends.
This iconic event is FREE and it started yesterday and ends on Sunday.
“The people’s festival” goes down at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre from 1pm until 8pm daily.

The line-up includes Benjamin Jephta, who is coming all the way from the USA, Camillo Lombard, Allou April, Sammy Webber, Celeste Williams, Varonica Meyer, Ashanti, Cameron Ward, Jason Ward, Ida Gormsen (from Norway), Jitsvinger, Auriol Hays, Deep Soul and many more.
