The Best of Boogie is back with a bang and celebrating 10 years of old school hits.
So if you’re in the mood for lagbol comedy and a lekker jol, you’ve got to get your tickets to the show before it’s sold out.
This year, the Daily Voice has teamed up with Ganarama Productions to host the special 10th anniversary show.
Director Rafiek Mammon says that the show is already 80% sold out due to its popularity.
“The show is in demand and because it’s an annual show running for seven days only, the regulars of over 10 years have already bought group bookings in the hundreds,” he says.
The 1500-seat venue has previously seen sold-out performances over the past nine years, and Rafiek says he has no doubt that history will repeat itself.
“Thanks to people who used this event for fundraisers, Best of Boogie has already managed to help build mosques and churches and even pulpits in Cape Town,” he says.
And this year, he says people can expect much more humour and a bigger jol.
“It’s the kind of jol that every person on the Cape Flats will be proud of,” he says.
“It’s an unapologetic coloured humour show with stars Gary Naidoo, Jon-E and Riyaan Cornelius.”
The show started out 10 years ago as just a once-off production by Rafiek and singer/actor Gary but soon took off.
Today, the production features six lead vocalists including Celeste Dreyer, Janine Cupido and Cindy Gibbons who join Gary, Jon-E and Riyaan on stage.
Expect covers of legends such as Diana Ross, Earth, Wind and Fire, Gloria Gaynor, Whitney Houston, Bee Gees, Mariah Carey and Kool and The Gang.
“We had no idea it would be such a great success, reaching 10 years wasn’t what we envisioned for this show but look, it’s 10 years later and we’re still going strong because the people are demanding comebacks every time,” adds Rafiek.
