Cape Town Kung Fu master turned author Junaid “MJ Li” Chafeker will be jetting off to India this week to promote his debut book, less than 20 days after its launch.
The 36-year-old Legends of Kung Fu World Martial Arts champion released his first book last month, titled Kung Fu, My Journey, My History, which tells his inspiring life story.
The book, which is a dedication and tribute to his mother who passed away five months ago, also has a few chapters devoted to The History of Islam in China, The Ethnic Minorities and The Hui developing their own style of Kung Fu hundreds of years ago in northern China.
Now the Indian High Commission and Tourism Director of Hyderabad has invited him to promote his book in India for 13 days
“I am so thankful. The book has not even been out for 18 days, it’s not even on the shelves yet and this is the response.
“I have sold almost 1 000 books in Cape Town alone. I am overwhelmed by the support,” a grateful Chafeker tells the Daily Voice.

The Kung Fu master says it’s every author’s dream to do an international tour, nevermind with their first book.
“I never thought it would come this early, but I look forward to it,” he says.
“On Wednesday, I will land in Mumbai and I will be having talks at colleges, schools, universities and mosques in Mumbai, Goa and Hyderabad,” he says proudly.
But he will also get the opportunity to show off his awesome Kung Fu moves.
Chafeker says he will have a few demonstrations for youth in India, in the hopes of inspiring them to take up the sport.
