The Bayhill Premier Cup, South Africa’s biggest youth soccer festival has been cancelled this year as the coronavirus crisis takes hold.
The annual event was set for its regular Easter weekend slot (8 to 13 April 2020) at Erica Park in Belhar.
On Tuesday, organisers decided that it would not stage the event for the first time since 1989.
A statement reads: “In light of our President declaring South Africa a National State of Disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act on the 15th of March 2020... we have halted all planning for the 2020 event and will be communicating our decision to all stakeholders in due course.
“The Bayhill Premier Cup is saddened that the event will be cancelled, but we are proud to be supporting the cause of an entire nation and ultimately the cause of the global human population.”
