Hundreds of people queueing at the local Sassa offices in Bellville were turned away on Monday morning due to Coronavirus fears.
A mother from Parow Valley was left disappointed and angry when she was told to leave three hours after standing in line.
“I was here at about 5.45am to make an application for my foster child,” she says.
“As we queued, we were told to go in but sit on every other chair and not sit directly next to each other due to the Coronavirus threat.
Just before 9am, she says staff members told them they had an urgent meeting and will be back as soon as possible.
“They came back from their meeting, saying staff are not willing to assist us because there are no masks or hand sanitisers.
“They said their head of department had to bring them the necessary items but they were still waiting. The staff then started taking down our names,” she says.

They were told no one would be assisted until Friday.
“The staff said we can come back on Friday because they will not be helping or seeing anyone for the rest of the week. But they added that it will not be a guarantee.
“Only people with masks, hand sanitisers will be helped. They said they cannot help us but need to adhere to what the President announced on Sunday evening.
“We sat there for hours only for them to tell us this? So what now?” she questioned.
