The YMCA in Athlone is looking for donations to help fund a camp for 50 of their youth in the area.
The centre, which is situated on Dr Abdurahman Avenue in Kewtown, accommodates on average 100 children a day, offering a safe space from 2.30pm until 4.30pm.
Youth project manager, Seagan van Niekerk, says they have 2000 children registered on their database and have programmes to keep the youth busy.
“Our children start within the Children’s Programme and now they have an opportunity to join in on the new Youth Programme so they don’t miss out on the fun when they get older,” he says.
PLAY: Kids enjoy games.
“In December 2019, as our Youth Department, we would like to allow our children to take part in our annual Children’s Camp.
“We will be hosting a group of 50 children. Our camps are motivating, exciting and filled with loads of fun and learning. Every year we have full attendance and full participation. We would appreciate some assistance.”
The camp costs R750 per child but each kid will need at least R350, and the YMCA puts up the rest of the money.
They also need sponsorship for meals, cool-
drinks, transport, utensils, toys and outdoor games.
The location of the camp has not been finalised yet.
“This camp will be for those who have nothing to do and want to make a better life for themselves. Our youth live nearby and often are too scared to go outside,” adds Seagan.
“We would appreciate any donations or sponsoring.”
