It was touch and go for the Capetonian talents on The Voice SA this week, but four of them managed to fight their way to the Battle Rounds.
Sunday night saw Team Riky Rick’s contenders sing for a spot in the coveted Safe Zone.
First to compete for one of the remaining three spots in #TeamRiky’s Safe Zone was the 24-year-old singing waitress from Cape Town, Nikita Williams, who performed Bang Bang, earning a standing ovation from her proud coach.
“You are a fully-fledged pop star,” Riky told her, but then inexplicably relegated her to the Danger Zone, from where Francois van Coke snapped her up for #TeamVanCoke.
A grateful Nikita said: “I learnt that it’s fine to take risks and if something doesn’t work, then you try a new way. My coach helped me tremendously and I really appreciate all the help I received from Riky Rick.”

Amy Tjasink, 26, from Cape Town, chose Camila Cabello’s Havana to showcase her lower keys.
Riky said every time Amy smiles at him, it warms his heart, and he placed her in the Safe Zone.
“Going into this round of the competition, I felt extremely nervous because knowing who you’re up against definitely adds drama to the whole experience.
“You start becoming friends with people on your team, and to compete against them is difficult,” Amy says.

Keanu Harker, 22, from Belhar, sang the George Benson classic Gimme The Night and Lira adored him, praising him: “You’re a superstar, I’m speechless.”
Once again, Riky sent his act to the Danger Zone and Lira snapped him up.
“I’ve learnt so much from my coach, about confidence and putting on a show and how to enjoy every moment,” says Keanu.
Tye Platinum, 33, from Ravensmead, performed Chris Brown’s No Air, ironically complaining of vocal fatigue, but coach Riana said she wanted to see him perform “again and again”.

Riky sent Tye to the Danger Zone, which gave Riana the opportunity to snap him up for her team.
“I felt extremely confident in this round and although I was strung with extreme vocal fatigue, due to external influences, I sang from a different place deep inside. Something carried me through,” Tye said after his performance.
Ultimately four contestants from #TeamRiky were knocked out.
The Voice SA airs on M-Net Channel 101 every Sunday at 5 pm.
