Aquaman is racking up the milestones.
The Warner Bros. film which had made $199.5m as of Monday, was set to surpass an estimated $200m as of New Year’s Day.
The DC adaptation, which stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe and Nicole Kidman, took in an additional $10.1m in US box office receipts for New Year’s Eve, according to Variety.
The expected eclipsing of the $200m mark puts it in the company of past blockbusters including 2005’s Batman Begins with $205m, 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 with $202m and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World with $206m.
Overall totals for the James Wan-directed motion picture remain strong as well, as the outlet reported Aquaman has now surpassed $750m with an additional $562m in international totals.
Elsewhere, Mary Poppins Returns was expected to surpass the $100m mark in US totals after it hit the $99.2m mark following the weekend, according to the outlet.
The Disney motion picture, which stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Dick Van Dyke, has taken in $174m overall over the weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
