Grootbek radio presenter Phat Joe has been taken off air following a social media backlash over his alleged homophobic remarks.
SABC spokesperson Vuyo Mthembu said: “The SABC can confirm that Phat Joe has been unscheduled until further notice.”
During his Radio 2000 breakfast show, Phat Joe and the Family, the radio host was commenting on Zodwa Wabantu’s recent statement about gay people on her show, Zodwa Wabantu Uncensored.
The raunchy dancer and socialite said that gay people are too dramatic at times and “they are convinced that they have vaginas”.
Zodwa received heavy criticism which led to the LGBTQI+ community calling for the show to be canned.
Phat Joe, who doesn’t mince his words, opened the lines for listeners to share their thoughts on homosexual men.

Joe aired his own controversial feelings on the subject, seemingly echoing Zodwa’s sentiments.
He said he was disgusted by being “hit on” by gays.
“I don’t understand why they can’t accept that it’s difficult for most people to accept their lifestyle,” he said.
Phat Joe replaced Justice “Just Ice” Ramohlola, who moved to an evening slot.
Over the years, Phat Joe has been fired from a number of stations including Metro FM, Kaya FM and East Coast Radio.
