Die Kaap was Hollands again as the klopse kicked off the minstrel season with the Voorsmakie march on Saturday.
Eighteen troupes came out in full swing for the parade and mense booked their spots early on the sides of the road.
The jol was hosted by the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association, and everything went smoothly.

Taking part were D6 Hanover, Xtreme Sunshine, V&A Minstrels, Carnival, Kensington All Stars, Young Dynamic Minstrels, Son Seawinds, All Star Entertainers, Wild Commachies, D6 Entertainers, Cape Hawkers, Baruch Entertainers, Juvie Boys, Ken-Fac Entertainers, Manenberg Superstars and G-Stars.

One could feel the festive season cheer as the bands kicked off the march from Keizergracht Street at 2pm.

It wound its way to the Grand Parade where the inaugural “Battle of the Bands” took place, and the bands all had a chance to shine on stage.

KKKA spokesperson Muneeb Gambeno says everything went according to plan.
“The event was fully compliant with all permit parameters and was on time. It was safe and secure and ended at 8.45pm,” said Gambeno.

“This event was an illustration of how Minstrel Carnival events can be inclusive and well organised when it’s done by people who have the best interest of the culture as its primary objective.”
