Tuesday 24 September is national braai day, officially known as Heritage Day.
It’s a public holiday so there is no excuse for you not to take out your braai tongs and start up those fires, mense.
There’s really nothing like a South African braai, it’s the perfect get-together where everyone has a role to play, from the person who makes the fire, the one braaiing, the one making salads and braaibroodjies, to the person who makes sure everyone’s glasses remain topped up, because we mos all know, braaiing is a thirsty job.
In between of course, you will get an education on how to braai the perfect lamb chop.
Never mind that you’ve spent days planning and prepping your braai, even Googling the perfect heat for your coals.
While enjoying your choppie, keep in mind your gesondheid and your summer body, people.
South Africans are being urged to make it a healthier Braai Day this year, given the rise in lifestyle diseases such as heart disease.
To this end, a free cookbook, Cooking from the Heart 4 Braai Edition, dedicated to this uniquely SA tradition, has just been launched to the public to help them make heart smart choices.
Cooking from the Heart has gotten the support from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
And it’s available for FREE on their website, cookingfromtheheart.co.za.
