Two Cape Town gospel artists who made it to the Top 10 of the TRACE Gospel competition need your votes.
South Africa’s newest 24-hour Gospel music platform, TRACE Gospel, on DStv channel 332, has selected the Top 10 finalists vying for the chance to win an all-expenses paid-for music video production to the value of R80 000, which will air exclusively on the channel.
Two of the 10 finalists are from Cape Town; Shana Ray from Mitchells Plain was selected for her song Go, and Chris Ikenna, from Milnerton, made it with his song, Jabu.
Valentine Gaudin-Muteba, the Managing Director of TRACE Southern Africa, said they received many entries since launching the channel and the competition late last year.
“Our submissions period saw us listening to hours of varied gospel music from each corner of our diverse country,” he says.
“We were very impressed with the singles that a lot of artists submitted, and it was a difficult road to nailing it down to the final 10.
“We are confident that the finalists that we have chosen represent all South Africans and Africans.”
Shana Ray, 29, from Portlands says Go is her first single and she is opgemaak with the achievement.
“I entered the TRACE Gospel competition in January just to give it a shot, you never know, right?” she says.
“And by the grace of God I was announced as part of the top 10 finalists and I’m really so grateful and looking forward to whatever lies ahead.”
Shana, who works as a secretary for the City of Cape Town, shot to fame on Facebook last year with her rendition of the popular koortjie, Staan Op, which has received 147 000 views to date.
Uber driver, Chris Ikenna, 36, from Milnerton entered Jabu and said: “Jaburata is a Nigerian language, which means abundance, or you could say more than enough.
