A Heideveld mom and her laaitie are behind bars after they were allegedly caught with drugs valued at R30 000.
Police say they raided the woman’s Cathkin Close home during the early hours on Friday after the family allegedly received a drug drop by skollies from Mitchells Plain.
According to a source, the house is a well-known pella pos in Heideveld and the mother is believed to be merting with youngsters.
Manenberg Police Station commander Brigadier Enolium Joseph says shortly after 3am, a large contingent of police descended on the house and arrested nine people.
“Police officers saturated the Manenberg precinct for the operation which was aimed at combating gang violence and doing crime prevention,” he says.
“We executed search warrants and targeted high flyers and drug hotspots.
“Nine persons were arrested, including a 49-year-old mother.
“On entering the house in Heideveld, several males aged between 18 and 26 and an 18-year-old girl were found in the house.”

Joseph says officers found four packets of uncut tik and 497 units of tik worth R30 000. Police also confiscated R24 800 in cash found stashed in the house.
“A 24-year-old male was also found in possession of a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off and 10 rounds of ammunition,” says Joseph.
“He will face charges of possession of an unlicensed and prohibited firearm as this carries a harsher sentence.”

The source says among the men arrested were two suspected Fancy Boys from Mitchells Plain and a guard who escorted them to the Heideveld house.
“Of the nine people, three men were from Mitchells Plain. The two were the Fancy Boys who brought the drugs in and the man found with the gun was their guard,” says the source.
“That house is a known pella pos from where the children and the mother sell drugs.”

Joseph says the mother, her daughter and her friends will all appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday on drug dealing and possession charges.
“It is devastating to communities when parents become involved with drug dealing and gangs.
“It is not acceptable that women or mothers use poverty as a reason to sell drugs.
“Substance abuse has tainted our community with serious violent crime, including domestic violence.
“The community has become lawless to such an extent that no one wants to report criminal activity.”
He says a further eight males, aged between 22 to 34, were also arrested as part of the operation on outstanding cases.
