Cape Town City chairman John Comitis believes new coach Jan Olde Riekerink has already taken his team to the next level.
Dutch coach Riekerink replaced Benni McCarthy at the beginning of the month and will officially take charge of his first game when City go to Bloem Celtic on Wednesday night (7.30pm).
And Comitis reckons that his Citizens look set to bounce back from a start that saw them win just two of their 11 PSL games this season.
Comitis is particularly impressed with Riekerink doubling City’s training sessions during the international break.
He tells EWN: “It’s been exciting to see him at work, there’s a lot of things he has brought to the team already.
“The intensity has increased, we’ve doubled up at training sessions... a lot has changed in a short time without changing much on the pitch because he wants to let the players be themselves.”
Comitis reveals that Riekerink has been on his wanted list for a while. The two had met during Comitis’ time as Ajax Cape Town chairman.

And he says of the former Jong Ajax coach: “I’ve spoken to him previously many times he was not ready to come, the timing was good when I called him it took him literally one afternoon to make up his mind up. It was the right time for him - so we are just fortunate to land him.”
