Mamelodi Sundowns moved top of the PSL standings after beating Cape Town City 3-2.
After a debatable penalty scored by Citizens winger Riyaad Norodien had cancelled out Lebohang Maboe’s opener, Anthony Laffor and Phakamani Mahlambi put the Tshwane team 3-1 up before Kermit Erasmus pulled a goal back in the 92nd minute.
Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy insists Mamelodi Sundowns were deserved winners.
“I think the deserved team won here today. It wasn’t our great game since I’ve been here,” McCarthy said.
“Nerves, too many of my players were not in the game. They’ve been giving me everything in every single game, these are the games where you expect the performances naturally to rise but maybe this game was one game too much to ask for.
“We made it difficult for Sundowns but we weren’t at our best. We’ll have another opportunity next week Tuesday to play the same team. I think in Cape Town things will be a little different.”
“I’m happy for Kermit, he came in and scored a wonder goal. For me that’s gotta be goal of the season. But well done to
Sundowns.”
City face second-placed Wits at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday (8.15pm).
