Goalless and winless Stellenbosch FC will go up against Wits on Tuesday at 7.30pm with nothing to lose, says coach Steve Barker.
The PSL newboys have found life in the top flight tough to adjust to and are still looking to find their touch in front of goal, having played to two goalless draws and a loss in their maiden campaign so far.
But the 14-placed PSL team go to the high-flying Students desperate to get their foot in the door and open their account.
Coach Barker says: “We find a way to play and create chances.
“When you play in the NFD, teams don’t see you play and can’t really plan for you, so it’s a lot easier.
“It’s just a question of belief and confidence. That’s what it boils down to."
“Once we get that first win under the belt, we score that first goal, I do believe that we will score more goals.
“It is concerning. It is an area that we will definitely have to work on and improve.”
Stellies will have to embrace their underdog tag and prove that they have a bite beyond Barker’s fighting talk, with the likes of Iqraam Rayners, Waseem Isaacs and Lelethu Skelem carrying the goal threat.
The boss adds: “We have to stay positive. The foundation to kick on is being laid. So we have to go on to Wits.
“Most people don’t expect us to get anything, so why not go there and be brave. Maybe we’ll surprise them.”
