Cristiano Ronaldo is not only a star on the soccer field. The Juventus forward is also now the most-followed person on Instagram.
CR7 has eclipsed singer Selena Gomez to the social media top spot.
The Portugal captain now has 144 million followers on the photo-sharing platform, while the pop singer trailed him at 115k less followers at the time of writing.
Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande make up the top five most followed celebs on Instagram, while Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is the only other footballer in the top 10.
However, Selena has been silent on Instagram since September.

So it should come as no surprise that she’s been dethroned as the social media queen.
Writing on 24 September, the Wolves singer announced she would be taking a break from social media for a while.
“As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given,” she wrote alongside a smiley selfie.
“Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”
Her post has garnered more than 8 million likes, with fans begging for a prompt return.
Some suspected the break was due to Selena focusing on her health as a few weeks after the post, reports emerged she had been hospitalised and is undergoing mental health treatment.
The 26-year-old’s popular feed is a mix of candid portraits, travel snaps and promo shots, with some images acquiring up to 37 million likes.
The former Real Madrid striker has been in the news for rape allegations made against him by a 33-year-old Kathryn Mayorga, who has accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.
He’s denied the claims.
