Both unbeaten after four rounds in the Currie Cup, Western Province and the Sharks will face off at Newlands on Saturday.
It’s coach John Dobson’s Province that are seen as the early favourites in the competition, but they will face their biggest title test to date against the Durbanites.
And while WP have run wild against their other opponents, Dobson knows they can’t afford to drop their guard against the team they beat in last year’s final to win the trophy.
Dobson explains: “The Sharks were very impressive physically against the Lions from what I saw, so it is going to be a nice Currie Cup classic Test match.
“After our second half and their [Sharks’] performance, we have got no room for complacency.
“What is good for us is that it gives us something to get our teeth into for next week.”
Dobson believes discipline cost Province in the second half of their 38-12 win over Griquas on Saturday, where they kicked away too much possession and conceded penalties.
He adds: “Our discipline in the second half, we gave away 18 penalties and I said to the team that if you go back to 1891, you won’t find a team that has won the Currie Cup after conceding 18 penalties.
“You could sense that the crowd were enjoying it [the first half] and we wanted to get that noise up again.
“We are sitting here feeling like it was a loss when there is lots to be happy about.”
