Paarl Rocks suffered a heartbreaking four-wicket defeat to the Tshwane Spartans in the Mzansi Super League on Wednesday afternoon.
Batting first at Centurion after winning the toss, Rocks were bowled out for an embarrassing 121 runs.
Captain Faf du Plessis tried his best to resist the destructive bowling of Lutho Sipamla (3/19) and Shaun von Berg (3/27).
But after scoring 38 runs, he played a Sipamla delivery straight to AB de Villiers at cover.
Rocks’ next best batsman was West Indian Dwayne Bravo (25), who was also caught by De Villiers off the bowling of Sipamla.
The Spartans, though, made hard work of scoring the winning runs and after opener Gihann Cloete set the perfect platform with his knock of 30, they left it late and needed 11 runs off Dane Paterson's final over.
Paterson then conceded two boundaries - a six and a four - to Robbie Frylinck (22*) as the hosts won with three balls left.
