Safa boss Danny Jordaan says coach Stuart Baxter must turn to the youth to build his 2022 Bafana Bafana team.
Following years of failure in qualifying for major tournaments, Safa called for their Vision 2022 to be implemented strictly for the World Cup in Qatar for years from now.
South Africa have missed out on reaching the every global showpiece since 2002, except for hosting 2010.
But Jordaan reckons that after the success of youth teams reaching 2019 Africa Youth Championships and the U17s still on course to booking a spot in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania, it’s time to build with the next generation.
He says: “We said to Stuart Baxter, whatever the age of your players in your team is, you must add four years to 2022.
“So if that player is 36 years old now, you must ask yourself the question: is that player for World Cup 2022?
“Essentially, we are giving him the message that he must start with the next generation of Bafana Bafana players.”
