Benni McCarthy is back in the PSL coaching area after the Bafana Bafana legend was unveiled as AmaZulu’s new head coach on Monday.
McCarthy's appointment is a major statement of intent from AmaZulu, whose chairman Sandile Zungu has set an ambitious target of a top-four finish this season.
The appointment comes after Usuthu’s former head coach Ayanda Dlamini resigned from the post last week.
But with former Cape Town City boss McCarthy in the mix, a top-four finish is only the beginning.
The Hanover Park legend says: “I want to be part of the aspirations that AmaZulu have. I know that the club is aiming for a top four target but my aims are far greater than that.
“As a young boy, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to play. I will now have an opportunity to give youngsters that opportunity.
“We must be able to compete with the likes of Orlando Pirates, Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.”
This is the first offer McCarthy has accepted since he was sacked by City after a poor run of form last November.
Benni’s first game in charge of Amazulu, currently in 11th place on the PSL log, is tomorrow night’s KZN derby against Golden Arrows at Kings Park.
