In a heartwarming show sportmanship, UniMil and SK Walmers played in the Ely SK Walmers played in the Ely Memorial Cup this past weekend.
The match played at the Green Point Track was done so in memory of Ebrahim Ely - a former player of both teams - who passed away in 2016.
And credit must go to both teams for launching this wonderful initiative.
On the field, though, it was coach Isma-Eel Dollie’s UniMil that took all the credit, scoring 12 tries to bag an easy 78-13 win.
Three of those touchdowns belonged to former Kraaifontein hooker Xander Kuys, while ex-Belhar men Adrian and Cheslin Roberts also dotted down twice.
While UniMil recorded a big win to lift them to fifth on the Super League A log, the other games last weekend were closely-contested affairs.
Brackenfell - unbeaten heading into the weekend - almost had their streak stopped, but ultimately did enough to play to a 17-17 draw with Villager at Brookside.

One team that did lose their unbeaten status on the weekend was Durbell.
Despite heading into the break with a 31-13 lead over fellow title contenders False Bay, the men from Durbanville could only score three points in the second half.
The Bay, on the other hand, scored 24 points to complete a remarkable comeback (37-34) thanks to a superb hattrick of Adnaan Osman tries.
Florida Park played host to another close encounter as Tygerberg looked to get their season back on track after a slow start.
But it wasn’t to be in the end for coach Brendell Brandt’s men as they lost 31-28 to Hamiltons, despite winger Lucan Kirchner also dotting down three times.
It was a weekend in which a lot of hattricks were scored.
And the man who currently tops the SLA points-scoring charts with 69 points, Alroy Brandt, was not going to be left behind.
Playing on the wing for Parow NTK in their match against St Georges, Brandt scored three tries with prop Dewald Els also dotting down twice as the hosts continued their impressive start to the season.
Looking ahead to this weekend’s action, NTK will be involved in a derby of the underdogs when they travel to Brackenfell.
Both teams have been punching above their weight this year, with Saturday’s hosts currently in sixth place on the log, with NTK in eighth.
Staying in the north, Durbell host struggling Belhar on Saturday as the former look to return to winning ways.
The Florida Park encounter between Tygerberg and St Georges will also have a derby flavour to it, with a number of players from the Strand team having represented the Tiere in the past.
Halfbacks Morne Adams and Armien Bailey represented Tygerberg in the past, while coach Charlton Cloete is also an ex-Tier.
The derby of derbies this weekend, though, takes place at the Track where the struggling SK Walmers host high-flying Hamiltons.
