A Female Law Enforcement officer came under attack by knife-wielding skollies in Delft on Thursday who tried to steal her firearm.
According to a report by Law Enforcement spokesperson, regional inspector Yul Coleman, the officer who is stationed at Rosendal High School was accosted by three men at 12.30pm.
“The suspects, allegedly dressed in school uniform, attempted to rob the Law Enforcement School Resource Officer (SRO) of her firearm,” Coleman says.
“She recognised they were not from that school. In the scuffle that ensued they stabbed into her bullet proof vest with a knife.
She pushed a panic button on her radio device upon which the radio control came to her aid.
“Her partner at the school was patrolling another section of the school premises at the time of the incident and responded to the calls on the radio.
“The suspects then fled the scene, but her firearm was retained,” explains Coleman.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the officer was unharmed but was taken to hospital.
“Luckily she was not harmed as she fought them off. This shows how criminals are operating and it could have been a teacher or pupil that was hurt,” Smith says.
“The SROs are placed to make the schools safer, but that does not always mean they are safe.
“The communities must speak up and help protect officers so they can continue to protect their children.
“So we are asking for people to come forward with information if they know who these suspects are.
“All information will be treated confidentially.”
