A Mitchells Plain woman says she is furious after her son came under attack at school from brick-throwing laaities.
Last Tuesday during interval at Hugenoot Primary School in Tafelsig, four learners were injured when boys standing outside the school fence threw bricks. The learners were hit in the head and needed medical attention.
Sharon Hendricks, 33, is up in arms and says she now fears for her son’s life since it’s not the first time he was injured at school.
“On Valentine’s Day my son came home crying because these same boys came onto the school ground to tax him,” she says.
“There are two holes in the fence and these boys enter [there].
“On Tuesday (22 May), I got a call to come to school because my son was hit in his face.
HURT: Learner struck by brick thrown by laaities
“I asked the neighbourhood watch members, who are based on the school premises, what happened. The woman said she had to run for cover because it was raining bricks and stones.”
Sharon has since laid charges at Mitchells Plain SAPS.
“I made a case because these kids could have killed my child. In 2016, he was beaten by a male educator, my child is already traumatised and now this.”
The Daily Voice contacted Hugenoot Primary School, but the secretary said the principal did not want to comment.
Western Cape Education Department spokesperson, Bronagh Casey, said: “The WCED district office is unaware of the incident and is currently making enquiries.”
SAPS spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms: “A case of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) has been opened for investigation. No suspect has been arrested.”
