Here we go 2020! It’s a fresh decade and no time like the present to make some firm resolutions about how we behave on the roads.
But where to begin? There are so many factors that influence the way we are on the roads, but at least these are underpinned by the importance of good sense.
It being season, number one on the list must be the fact that alcohol and roads do not mix, whether you’re driving or walking. It’s never good sense to have lost your sensibility. Besides that, Cape traffic officials are out and about with Random Breath Testing, and drinking and driving is sure fire way to get yourself a record.
Then there is general good practice, like buckling up your kids every time, also a no-brainer. Keeping well under the speed limit, driving pro actively and making sure you are paying attention (ie. not to your cellphone) are also vital elements.
As a pedestrian, paying attention to visibility is first and foremost, as every person on the road takes personal responsibility for upholding safety.
So, here’s the challenge: Resolve to never drive under the influence, and take it even further, the driver should be stone cold sober, it’s not enough to be just under the limit. If you make one new year’s undertaking, make it this one. The change begins with you.
