The mother of the 13-year-old girl who got beaten up by a boy in her class last week is furious because the school principal has apparently been ignoring her.
The meisie from Livingstone High School in Claremont says she was defending her friend, who was allegedly “touched inappropriately” by the boy.
She says the boy pushed her friend and when she intervened, he first punched her in the face before viciously beating her up.
The incident, which occurred last Tuesday morning, was filmed by a pupil, and the video went viral.
The girl’s mother laid a charge after she saw the 31-second clip.
The girl says she went to report the matter to the office but was allegedly told she and the boy must sort it out among themselves.
On Sunday morning the right side of her face was still swollen, while the J88 form filled in by a doctor confirms she has soft tissue bruising.
But according to Jessica Shelver from the Western Cape Education Department, the acting principal had contacted the parents of both pupils.
“The acting principal informed us that the parents of both learners were contacted and informed of the alleged incident,” she says.
“They were also informed that the SGB would follow due process in terms of disciplinary action. A disciplinary hearing is scheduled to take place on 22 August.
“Counselling and psychological support is being made available for both learners.”
But the girl’s mother says it’s lies.
“I told them I was coming and would wait on Monday until someone became available to look at the doctor’s report,” she says.
“They just would not see me. This is not on and I will not take it lying down.”
